Comes with free upgrades:
- quality Stevenson Reeves Beer/Wine hydrometer,
- laboratory quality glass trial jar when available OR a top quality transparent plastic trial jar,
- two large easy to read liquid crystal thermometers, full range 10 to 40 oC,
- 23L PET carboy, and
- Telescopic de-luxe Syphon.
The 23 litre PET carboy has less head space that standard 25 litre fermenters, and less air means less oxidation during secondary fermentation. This is particularly important when making the higher quality 4 and 6 week wines.
The trial jar is clear, which means you will get a more accurate specific gravity reading without having to fill it to the top.
The de-luxe Syphon has a number of unique features to stop your wine getting contaminated with saliva from your mouth:
- it has a short tube that you insert into the syphon to get the syphon going,
- it has a tube clip that closes the tube,
- the short tube is then removed, and the tube clip is easily opened to start the flow.
When wine is ready for bottling, just attach the syphon to the bottle filling stick, open the tube clip and fill the bottles; this minimizes air contact since the bottles are filled from the bottom up. The bottle filling stick has a spring loaded valve that automatically stops the flow when it is removed from the bottle.
This boxed starter kit contains:
- a 25 litre fermenter, lid, bung, and bubbler airlock,
- a 23 litre PET carboy, bung, and bubbler airlock,
- 2 by large liquid crystal thermometers (you don't have to ruin the wine by opening the fermenters to take a temperature reading, and the large LCD thermometers are the easiest to read on the market),
- bottle filling stick (spring loaded),
- Stevenson Reeves hydrometer (top of their range),
- quality glass/transparent plastic trial jar,
- BB trial jar: 1.2045
- Better Brew bottle brush,
- stirring paddle (16 inch),
- quality HB twin lever metal wine corker (makes corking a breeze),
- 25 quality Youngs no soak corks, and
- 100g VWP cleaner/sterilizer (the best).
Does not come with a wine ingredients kit, so you will have to buy one separately. If you are a beginner, we highly recommend the Cantina Pinot Grigio, quite drinkable and ready in just 5 days!
